Pastor John slumps as he listens to Mrs.Crow berate him after the morning service. He sighs and nods. “Yes Mrs. Crow, thank you for your input. I will pray on that, and I hope you will pray for me as well,” he says, with a tired smile. “ Hope you have a wonderful afternoon and I’ll see you next week.“ John is the new Senior Pastor.
Amanda stands next to John and holds her breath and prays for strength for her husband, and for a kind spirit for Mrs. Crow. Amanda is the pastor’s wife.
They are the church, and they are amazing.
Susan rises early in the morning and gets down on her knees. She asks for guidance and wisdom in teaching the young people at her church, and for protection for them and their families. Susan is the Youth Pastor.
Laura listens to a woman who’s suddenly lost her husband of fifty years. In a tidal wave of emotion, the woman sobs and unloads her fears, her anger, her anguish, her regrets. Laura wraps her arms around the woman. “Let it out, Norma. God knows your pain. I’ve got plenty of time, and I’m here to listen.” Laura is a counselor.
Scott encourages George when he discovers he’s been drinking again. “So you stumbled. Remember, we have a God of second chances. He’s there for you and always will be. C’mon, how ‘bout we get you into a program?” Scott is an elder.
They are the church, and they are amazing.
Sally wails as she wipes the tears from her eyes. “Why do we have to leave Mommy? Will we ever see Grandma and Grandpa again?” Sally’s parents are missionaries.
Emily lays awake at night and makes petitions to the Lord. In the midst of her pain, she prays for others. In the morning the phone rings. It’s another person asking for prayer. Emily is on the prayer chain.
Susan pushes beyond her shyness and extends her shaking hand to a stranger. She is the greeter at the door.
They are the church, and they are amazing.
Walter’s joints creek with pain as he shuffles each day to serve in a soup line for the homeless. Always with a kind smile, he greets every person by name. He’s an elder at the church.
Sarah hurriedly waddles through the kitchen every morning preparing the meals to be served that day. She knows every recipe by heart. She is Walter’s wife.
Charlie stands in for his wife in the nursery because she is ill that Sunday. He cradles a crying baby in his arms for the entire service. He’s the maintenance man.
They are the church, and they are amazing.
Olivia sings loud and clear to the Lord in worship even though she can’t hold a note. She lifts her hands high. She’s the worship leader.
Luanne teaches adult Sunday school to a classroom full of men and women. God ordained, she is more than qualified. She’s a teacher and a mother of five.
Kathy sits and holds the hand of a dying friend. For a few hours she listens until the woman nods off for a nap. Kathy cleans her friend's house for another hour and then leaves for the day. The next day she visits her again. Kathy is a faithful friend…truly amazing.
