The hour was late and all had agreed
The meeting succeeded, fulfilling the need
And so they arose to go on their way
But noted that one had intended to stay
They grumbled and fumbled, now seated again
Staring down at the one in open disdain
“What have we here?” cried one with despair
“Surely we’ve finished and cleared the air!”
Attempting to bully this one in discord
They stretched and yawned as if horribly bored
They knew he would speak if given the chance
and were fully aware his conservative stance
“The Bible is worthy, we do not disagree!”
Spoke one with great emphasis, slapping his knee
“But you must understand that the world is new!”
Another broke in and expounded his view
The one sat in silence without agitation
Praying for wisdom without complication
For he knew the desire that hotly burned
The financial gain for which they yearned
There had been a time, though many years past
When their hearts were in Christ, true and steadfast
But site of the goal became shadowed in greed
Now they rode compromise, powerful steed
Boldly undaunted, and fiercely annoyed
They knew this dissenter must now be destroyed
One after another they defended their plan
Bearing down harshly on this quiet man
But when he arose so calm and assured
They gaped at each other, now a docile herd
He lifted his Bible, armour held high
Speaking the truth, exposing the lie
He seemed to them Paul, full of fire yet mild
Sharing God’s Word with the heart of a child
When he had finished and peacefully left
Of prior annoyance, they all were bereft
Twitching and muttering, most to themselves
The stirrings were deep, where God alone delves
They looked quite embarrassed and stumbled about
Not so distinguished, they found their way out
No words could they speak, least of all to each other
For they knew God had spoken, using this brother
Now clearly awakened, each man from within
Must either repent or succumb to the sin
Ephesians 6:13
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that he may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” KJV
