Glints green in the sun
Like broken bottle glass
Scattered in front
Of the door that
Both hearts tried to enter
Not enough room,
They could not
Push through the pride
“I deserve first
Pass this time,”
Both hearts thought the same
While memories pushed
Against their backs
But could not get through
While promises pushed
Against their backs
But could not get through
While comrades pushed
Against their backs
But could not get through
The doorframe strained
At the red hot wedge
Of their fiery anger
Grunting and groaning
Red-faced friends
Stall, straining in the gap
The seethe of hatred
Bloating at the door
Where once Love reigned
Finally, they snap
And ram right through the space
Triumphal shout from both
But drop down,
Sliced and splintered
By the broken frame
Memories, promises, comrades
Shred across the
Shattered friendship shadow
All fall down
Fractured behind the black
And hardened obstacle
The haughty block
That stops and thwarts
The flow of love
