I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone figures how
To simulate the senses, such as hearing or of sight,
But were I blind or deaf, how much would truly I delight?
Had I not seen a rainbow's hues arch high above the skies,
Just how would I receive the news of artificial eyes?
Would thoughts of driving, reading print be foremost in my mind,
Or would I pause to some extent and wonder how I'd find
It inescapable to see the evil on the earth?
Would hunger, violence not be inclined to taint its worth?
Had I not heard the songs of birds, or handbells ringing clear,
Just how would I conceive the words, an artificial ear?
Would simpler communication be sufficient cheer,
Or would I wish to stop and weigh some other sounds I'd hear?
Would screams of fear or sounds of war which plague this wicked world
Suppress my sweet excitement for technology unfurled?
Would beauty of what God has made and blessed us with delight
Be absolutely worth the tradeoff, misery and plight?
Or would I rather rest in Jesus' all-sufficient grace,
And my first sound His voice be, first sight His radiant face?
