I found myself confused.
The meter wasn’t any kind
That I had ever used.
The rhyme scheme was unusual;
No pattern I detected,
Nor could I note the audience
To whom it was directed.
Bewildered was I by the lack
Of form or symmetry.
There was no set of stanzas or
No style, it seemed to me.
Because I saw no simile
Nor any metaphor,
The kind of poem this might be
Was puzzling even more.
Yet when I read it once again,
It all fell into place,
And as the message then was clear,
The tears ran down my face.
The poet’s passion could be felt
Within each written line
Of poem so impressive that
I wished it had been mine.
The author wrote from heart and soul.
This poem was not muddled.
I’d clearly missed the wondrous words
And I, the one befuddled.
