The man did not care--the boy could take no more
The father bent, with fisted hands struck another blow
The son pulled out his pocket knife--then rage took control
The abuser lay bleeding as his son made quick retreat
Running scared, heart pounding, scarlet drippings stained the street
He took refuge at a shelter where kindness he once found
With care his wounds were wrapped, but guilt and fear had him bound
Never had he felt such rage--stabbing the blade into that flesh
His father gasped with hate-filled eyes, blood was oozing from his chest
As the boy sobbed the night’s events, with the outcome still unknown
The listener ached with every word, the story chilled her bones
Authorities searched the home, and they found the monster dad
Sleeping off his drunken rage--his shallow wound was not so bad
He sobered up with coffee, answering questions--just a few
They learned that through his teens, this man was often beaten too
Why is this world filled with souls who do such dreadful deeds
Where lack of love is evident, that’s where this violence breeds
Therein lies the answer--love could heal the darkness that decays
God gave us His command--let’s spread our love for brighter days
