“Mr. Kimball, I need your advice. I’m on my way to ‘Drucker’s Store’ to buy seed; I’m having some trouble in deciding what kind of seed I need to purchase. Should I plant corn again this year?”
“Good morning, Mr. Douglas! Well, it’s not a good morning. It’s raining.”
“Yes, it is raining, but getting back to my question...Is it a good season for planting corn?”
Shifting his weight in the office chair, Hank Kimball is seemingly deep in thought. Tapping his index finger on the desk, he decides. “Yes, I would say this is a very good year for planting corn.”
Oliver smiles in satisfaction and pivots toward the exit. Before turning the doorknob, the voice of Kimball distracts him.
“On the other hand, corn is not what Fred Ziffel is planting.”
“So, I’d make a mistake if I plant corn?”
“Yes, I’d say it’s a bad idea.”
“Okay, I was toying with the idea of planting beans.” Again, Mr. Douglas begins to leave.
Mr. Kimball silently shuffles from behind; timidly tapping Oliver on the shoulder, he clears his throat. “But bean prices are low in the market.”
Beginning to lose his patience and temper Oliver slumps his shoulders and raises his voice.
“Kimball, I want your final opinion! Weighing the pros and cons, should I buy corn or bean seed over at Druckers’?”
“Sam Druckers’? Just over there, myself. Store’s closed, sign posted on his door.”
“Oh, great! What’d the sign say?”
“Gone Fishing. Back after lunch.”
“Alright, I’ll just wait until after lunch.”
“Lunch? No thanks, Mr. Douglas, I just finished breakfast.”
