with my thoughts replaying the day,
I rest in simple contentment,
and with great thankfulness I pray.
Just some ordinary hours,
from dawn until dusk tasks addressed,
but contemplating the moments,
I know the day long I was blessed!
I have had sweet doggie cuddles,
enjoyed my cookies baking smell,
got to hug my aged mom and dad,
and watch some raindrops as they fell.
I have heard the words, “I love you,”
said many times throughout this day,
I have heard the words, “I miss you,”
from loved ones who are far away.
I had hope refreshed by God’s word,
had friends visit through internet,
had poetry whisper to me,
and God paint me a grand sunset.
I had clean water to shower,
and plenty of good food to eat,
and as this cold night engulfs me,
how thankful I am to have heat!
And many things did not happen,
nothing tragic to mar my day,
every mundane, routine minute,
God kept me in so many ways.
Just to reach day’s end without hurt,
to close a day unscarred—unstressed,
to have an ordinary day—
is to have a day truly blessed!
