You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man
Todd McCormick felt a familiar anger welling inside. If only they had caught him sooner this girl would still be alive.
“Our guy’s been busy.” Todd’s partner shook his head. “Looks just like the other two.”
“Let’s hope he left a trail this time.”
Todd squatted to get a closer look at the girl. He ignored the purple line marring her neck and studied her face. She wasn’t any older than his Ashley, just on the cusp of womanhood. This girl could have been one of Ashley’s friends.
She could have been Ashley. The thought slugged him in the gut. This girl, no matter who she was, did not deserve to die this way. If the past victims were any indication, the Gingerbread Man not only took her life, but her innocence as well.
“Why drop her here?”
“Along came a horse who wanted a snack,” Todd quoted. He pointed to the crimson mustang painted on the wall behind her.
“Sick.”
Todd agreed. Once the kid got a few more murders under his belt, he wouldn’t be so surprised at the depravity of man.
“How many more verses is he planning on playing out?” Ashley’s favorite nursery rhyme was forever tainted.
“As many as he can.” Todd said with sinking assurance. The farmer was next. Then the dog and the hog. Todd couldn’t let him get that far. They needed to stop him before more girls like Ashley were harmed. The fox finally outwitted the gingerbread man in the poem.
Todd straightened and turned. There was nothing more that he could do here until the medical examiner finished with the body and others combed the scene for clues. He turned to his partner.
“Let’s just make sure that it’s as few as possible.”
Watch out gingerbread man. The fox is on the hunt.

I would like to guess who the gingerbread is.
