Until the knowledge fruit they chose
To reign as gods they both were posed
Now to God's wrath they've been exposed
He said "The day you eat you'll die"
But neither one dares tell him why
They deigned His wisdom to defy
"Nay, on ourselves we must rely"
By apron craft they hope to find
A way to change their Maker's mind
Plea innocence to thwart the storm
And keep their naked bodies warm
No threaded needle bastes the leaves
They join in silence that deceives
No great machine have they to use
The blades and petioles to fuse
It takes hard work to pierce a vein
Entwining knots requires much pain
To make a garment fit to mend
Torn veils of virtue man did rend
Prepared at last they don the grove
Of withered fig tree skirts they wove
And seek to hide through well-framed plan
Their bare rebellion from God's fan
But with a whoosh in cool of day
He blows their foolish scheme astray
"Why did you not My Word obey?"
They cringe in fear to hear Him say
"You know more evil now than good
And cannot do the things you should
No fleshly arm can spare you shame
Nor worldly charm the wild beast tame
Man's science cannot guard your hearts
From fiery serpents' well-aimed darts
The knowledge of my law condemns
My ten commands can't make amends
To coat your crimes blood must be spilt
A holy flood to purge your guilt
Provide forgiveness rich and full
Make sins once scarlet white as wool
Behold the merciful I AM
Shall slay for you the spotless Lamb
The tree of life, a shoot of hope
The root of Jesse, Rahab's rope
Upon a naked, wooden post
I'll hang the sheep that I love most
Messiah nailed by men unjust
His feet now bruised, the snake's head crushed
Stone rolled away, He stands alive
Believe this truth and you shall thrive
No matter how you have behaved
Receive this message, you'll be saved
Enfold yourselves inside the scroll
Of wounded skin that makes you whole
Put on the love that covers shame
And call to Me in Jesus' name"
