For “three things” mom insisted,
But I knew there’d be trouble
With the second food listed:
Pickles.
The problem with pickles…
Is I like them too much.
At the market, Mom warned me
“Max, look…but don’t touch.”
But the pickles looked juicy,
Tart, crunchy and green,
Tongue-tickling pickles
Are better than beans.
Should I open a jar?
Would anyone care?
If one pickle went missing—
It’s not like they’re rare.
So…
While mom compared labels,
I twisted a cap,
Pulled out a pickle,
And munched a cool Rap.
But the problem with pickles
Is they’re crisp and they’re loud;
Mom heard and turned grey
Like an ominous cloud.
And the pickle was wet,
So the jar left my hands.
Imagine the sound—.
Glass yells when it lands!
The noise scared a baby
Who proceeded to scream,
And startled a man
Who threw his whipped cream.
White blobs hit the ceiling
And rained on mom’s bun;
The look on her face
Told me it’s time to run.
I zoomed down each aisle,
Passed pretzels and chips,
Hitched a ride on a cart,
And turned a few flips.
My pickle went flying
To the live lobster tank;
The problem with pickles…
In no time it sank.
I watched a young lobster
Ride his new pickle boat,
When the guard made his move,
Grabbed the arm of my coat.
Gotcha!
The store froze in silence
All eyes were on me—
The pickle thief caught;
I was branded: “GUIL-TY!”
A guard snapped on handcuffs
And led me away
Where pickle thieves go
To jar pickles all day.
So shopping for groceries
Taught me a lesson
I’ll recall at the market
And delicatessens…
Take heed to this warning:
Pickle eaters, beware!
If you hate pickle prison,
Stay safe and eat pears.
