To a meal of compositions,
Where we will feast together
On reflections.
Lured by paeans of song
And aromas of rhyme,
We will make our way
To a table, top-heavy
With varieties of verse.
There we’ll find
A delight of delicacies,
Prepared by the best word chefs
In every imaginable way:
Minced and sliced,
Diced and dried,
Pureed and pruned,
Breaded and baked,
And combined into tasty phrases
Of awesome imagery—
Delectable tidbits
Of morsels of meaning,
Bitter and sweet together,
Stirred into sensory stews.
We’ll ladle up lyrics,
Heaping platters of inspiration,
Rashers of romance,
And plates of personification.
We could almost make a meal
Of amazing metaphors and similes,
Laced with alliteration,
And scattered with a sprinkling
Of vivacious verbs
With emotive modifiers—
All seasoned with wisdom and wit.
Never could there be
A repast quite so savory,
Yet completely calorie free.
We will feed our artistic appetites
With nourishment for the soul.
