Bound fast by iron bands
In peaceful slumber Peter slept
In spite of Herod’s plans.
This selfsame man who weeks before
In shaking trembling shame
Before a servant maiden swore,
Denied the Saviour’s name .
What caused this change that fear was gone,
Despite the looming sword?
Where can a peace like this come from?
That even death’s ignored.
It was God’s Spirit brought the change
In wind and tongues of flame;
Though unbelievers thought it strange
‘Twas promised just the same.
Came from on high, makes His abode
In each one Christ has saved,
His peace of mind and gifts bestowed
Makes weak and fearful brave.
His gifts are for all those who come,
Abundantly supplied
So none can boast in good works done,
There is no room for pride.
This day and age defined by stress
Men’s hearts are short on peace
By vain philosophies obsessed
While faith and hope decrease.
There’s but one way to guard your heart—
Same way that Peter knew—
The peace that God alone imparts
Through faith is there for you.
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Is 26:3. NKJV.
