Steadfast with eyes focused on heaven.
Their hearts intertwined,
Their taste unrefined,
Poor, but blessed with a party of seven.
Six peas in their pod plus a puppy,
A yorkie who lived for attention.
She’d curl up to cuddle,
But often left puddles
Due to her lack of retention.
Luke and Lil worked each day leaving lists:
“Luke Junior, Jay, Bill, Mark, and Gene…
Must finish your chores,
Send Missy outdoors,
Take care of young May and please clean.”
The problem was Missy chewed paper.
The list torn to shreds like confetti.
The kids were amused,
But then turned confused…
“Were we to cook steak or spaghetti?”
Luke Junior thought steak was the answer,
Since quarterbacks must have their meat.
Jay said, “We should bake.”
Bill added, “Fudge cake.”
Mark and Gene said, “Make sure it’s real sweet!”
While the boys were busy with cooking,
May toddled upstairs in her gown,
Painting walls red
And unwinding thread;
Then dressed up the pup as a clown.
As the kitchen sizzled with grease,
And flour piled high into snow drifts,
The clock struck five thirty,
The house was still dirty,
And the pup tracked white prints as she sniffed.
Driving home, Lil started to worry,
A gut feeling that all was awry,
But lists gave her peace
As she watched flocks of geese
Form a neat v under clouds in the sky.
Luke and Lil came home to a circus…
Half their boys powdered white like a mime;
Missy failed to retain
Golden puddles like rain,
And Luke rescued the steak just in time.
Luke and Lil were a couple in love
Who learned something new everyday…
Their lists may have failed
For they weren’t emailed,
So now they send texts, H&K.
