Christianity works pretty much the same way. We oftentimes look for the easy way out-or the easy answers-the things that are most comfortable to us-instead of working to achieve a higher level of joy then we are currently experiencing in our walk with the Lord. How many times have we felt God nudging us to do something-and balk at the idea because we aren’t comfortable-or don’t feel qualified?
What I tell my students is that they need to be willing to be uncomfortable in order to reach a higher level of joy. My students are asked to submit to my suggestions-and to probably be uncomfortable in the beginning in order to become the player that they truly want to be. Do all of them do this? Not all-but most of them do and the ones that do usually go on to a higher level of competition-and a greater sense of joy. The ones that don’t remain static and stay where they are and usually aren’t very happy-and either go somewhere else or leave the game completely.
Jesus wants the same things from us as I want from my students. He’s asking us to be willing to submit to His teachings-and expects us to be a little uncomfortable at first-in order to be the people here on earth that He knows we can be. All He asks is that we are willing to make the changes that He suggests in order for us to better serve Him. Do all of us do that? No, but the ones that are willing to submit usually have a greater sense of joy and God can use them for a much higher calling then where they were at before being willing to submit to His will for their lives. The ones that don’t usually remain static and aren’t very happy-and either go somewhere else or leave the Lord completely.
The hardest thing to do is to willingly submit your weaknesses to God so that He can make them strengths. Most people aren’t very eager to be uncomfortable-because being uncomfortable isn’t much fun. God doesn’t want us to take the easy way out-He wants us to willingly submit to his teachings because the joy He has in store for all of us that do far outweigh the consequences of those who aren’t willing to follow Him.
