“You got it Photine. Is that better?”
“Much. Now let’s get this video under way.”
Good morning SA-MARI-A! Welcome to my blog, “Transformed”. I am excited to be sharing this time with you from my Samaritan home. I am even more excited to share with you something that happened to me yesterday. You are not going to believe it. Frankly, I’m still pinching myself to make sure it was true and not a dream. Let me share my story….
It was an ordinary day. I got up, got dressed, then made breakfast for myself and Abner. Breakfast finished, Abner went into town to have his usual discussion with the local men.
Around noon I decided now would be a good time to go to the well and get water for the day. As I’ve said before, I had to go at a time the local women were not there. The townswomen do not like me. Never have. Never will. They call me “slut.” They probably think I’m after their husbands.
Ha!
Not going down that road again. Truth be told, I was done with all that. Abner is enough.
Well, I grabbed my water pot and trudged off to get water. It was a hot day, and I was sweating by the time I reached the well. Just as I was about to draw water, this man approached me. “Oh no”, I thought. “I hope he doesn’t want to proposition me.”
He watched me for a moment and then he said, “Give me a drink”.
What?
I was dumfounded. I said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for drink from me, a woman of Samaria?”
We all know the Jews hate us Samaritans, right? Yet, there was something different about this man. A kindness I never saw in others. He didn’t seem like a Jew. He said to me, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
Now audience, I need to say this. I thought this guy was a little “off”, if you know what I mean. What in the world is living water? What makes him think he can give it to me? Why do I even need living water?
I laughed and said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob?”
This man before me acted like….like he was…I don’t know. Maybe saintly.
We all know the well Jacob gave us can’t satisfy our thirst forever. We will eventually be thirsty again and come to this well for more water. Okay audience, what would you have thought? Can anyone give us water so we will never be thirsty again? I think not.
Then he said something very strange. He said, “Everyone who drinks this water will thirst again - but the water I give will give you eternal life.”
Do you know what? I asked him for this water so I wouldn’t be thirsty again. This eternal life.
He said something alarming to me. He told me to go get my husband. We all know I have no husband and I told him this. Then he said, “I know. In fact you’ve had five husbands and Abner is not your husband now.”
Oh brother. This man knows way too much about me. As I observed him, a light came on and I realized I was talking to a prophet. Maybe even “the” prophet. I said to him, “I know the Messiah is coming. When he comes he will tell all things.” Then he said something that changed my world.
He said, “I am he”.
People, I am telling you. Yesterday I met the Messiah. He changed my life. I left my water jug with him and ran into town to share this good news with everyone I met. And today, I am sharing this news with you.
The Messiah is here.
I just met him.
He changed my life.
He wants to change your life too.
Receive this Living Water.
Messiah offers eternal life.
