He had died of a heart so paper thin, a weak heart, no one touched him. They were all afraid, he just looked different, he was unacceptable. He was marginalized by those that took a glance at his hideous grotesque hunch-back deformity. No one cared for him. Because he was not what they expected, so he was never accepted.
At his funeral wake his body was set at a much higher angle than most that have past to the great beyond. And you young boy who had a glass eye was the only brave one who was willing to feed his curiosity and and slowly pulled back the monster's jacket and as he did, the whole town gasped in regretful submission. The hunch-back had wings, angels wings. Because they did not open their houses, but more important their hearts, they denied an angel. In essence, they denied the Great One.
We do that everyday, we deny a homeless person, we deny one less fortunate, we don't pick up someone because we care more about the life we are supposed to die to everyday. We fear death even though Christ has conquered it, well then, that really means we don't trust God enough. And yet, we are commanded throughout all of scripture to love our enemies, to love the unlovable and I think we have forgotten, that we are the unlovable that have been loved. We think others have to be a certain way to come to Christ just like Jonah did and God wilted his shade. Hospitality isn't being nice to those you like, it is reaching beyond you and your comforts for the sake of sharing comfort and the truth of love with someone who really needs it. Maybe you need to show hospitality to yourself or someone you have been holding it back from. Check your heart for the sake of the kingdom."
