even before there was darkness You were there
speaking into a void so vast
it had no grasp
of space or time
through You all things were defined
in You was life
and there was light
and that was the very first day
so long ago
right from the get go
when the world was fresh
and all aglow
You came down below
amongst all that you had
and had told to grow
You strolled in the cool
of the evening
and as we
walked and talked
little did we know
that we would throw
it all away
with the bite of one apple
…and in some ways I get it…
But
You gave us
a second chance
why would You?
Although Your life below
would deal You a death sentence
long hard cruel nails
blow by blow
so much like
every other John Doe
as if it would make a difference
to the status quo
you slowly spiralled
into a free flow
death blow
you paid a debt
you didn’t owe
and allowed your blood to flow
and still we denied You
with every single
cock-crow
to a God who is omnipresent
omnipotent and omniscient
to the God who is almighty
and all powerful
I can only ask
one question
“Why would You?”
