Break through, O Sun of Heaven!
Break through these deadly clouds of selfish darkness,
and bring anew Your Glorious Light
into my stormy world rained now by seven sins!

Break through!
And in Your Holy Majesty purge out vile Pride!
Evict the wolf of Envy eating at every vital virtue.
Restore, oh Righteous One,
the Purity of Godly penance.
Let confession’s sweet release flow cleansing Sunlight
into this troubled soul.

Break through, Mighty Sun of Heaven!
Sear away Gluttonous Appetite
that rules in sloven lordship
over this stale realm of pleasure.
Let Lust no more accede the throne!
Claim here Your Rightful Home!

Break every bond of Anger’s passion.
Repeal the time dread ire has stolen,
and with sweet Holy Spirit Wind
breathe Peace in every corner of my soul!

Break the monstrous Greed that feeds a miser’s weakness!
Bring in the Sunlight of Your Generous Joy,
and break again Sloth’s bent to numbing sleep.
Arouse my spirit to Your Cleansing Ray,
the Son of God’s Pure Presence in each Day!

There is so much to love here, but I'll pick out the line that spoke to me today: "Repeal the time dread ire has spoken." It reminds me of a verse in Joel that has become dear to me: I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten...And your last two lines are perfect.

I love the flow of this poem. It's something that we all can relate to. When I finished reading it, I had a sense of hope. We don't have to be bound by these sins. Lovely.

The deliverance you portrayed at the sun's breaking through made me think of the verse from James 4:7 "submit, therefore, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you" Thanks for writing this. It is pure ministry.
