their opinions were dogmatic
His responses pragmatic
powerful and political
His parables empirical
both satirical and lyrical
he talked of wise and foolish
the sower, the weed
a mustard seed
kingdom of Heaven
bread that is leaven
widows and coins
trees that were barren
sons and servants
virgins, tenants
richman, poor man
beggar man, thief
the net, the pearl
hidden treasure
sheep and goats
a life of leisure
and a wedding feast
They labelled him storyteller
and magician
for challenging their opinion
and religious tradition
they despised his teaching
mocked his preaching
while all the time his sympathetic
empathetic aesthetic
fell amongst the apathetic
until they behaved frantically, frenetically
unapologetically pursued him
to the edge of a cliff, but
he walked free without a trace
yet crucified on a hill
he surrendered with grace
spat at, despised
with fear in their eyes
They forced him to wear a crown
while denying his heritage
A crown that pierced his scalp
barely pricked their conscience
There was a time
when they had raised palms
and proclaimed his sovereignty
but now they raised their fists
because of his bold claims
to have kingdom authority
