Topic: Mourn (08/01/24)
Gently, almost imperceptibly, it started to form in the corner of one eye. If only we could have seen deep within, we might have known what had caused it. Silently, it swelled until the perfectly formed droplet trickled down onto his upper cheek. Dragged back by dry desert dust, it paused and waited. The next drop joined it and spurred it on. Propelled onward, it mingled with stale sweat and zigzagged momentarily through the stubble, and disappeared into his beard. Finally, it dripped from his chin onto his hands clasped in supplication. Smooth to the touch, salty to the taste, he kissed the tear away. A long pause. A deep sigh. Slowly, but more noticeably this time, a slim rivulet streaked its way across the tiny desert patches and the shiny river beds that now crisscrossed his face. Each drop drizzled an anointing on his powerful petition. Divinity and humanity distilled, joined as one. Mourning for those that were lost or did not understand.
