"The Father has sent the Son as Saviour of the world." 1 John 4:14.
Jesus was sent by his Father for a specific purpose. That purpose could only be fulfilled if the Son exactly obeyed his Father's instructions.
That's exactly what Jesus understood and did. "I always do the things that please Him." John 8:29.
He faced challenges right from the beginning of his public ministry. He was “Led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” Matthew 4:1.
And how did Jesus respond to the devil’s temptations?
He did what God said. In response to Satan’s cunning ideas, three times Jesus said, “It is written”.
He made it clear to Satan that he was not allowed to do those things.
Throughout his life, Jesus was tempted to disobey his Father. “In all points he was tempted as we are.” Hebrews 4:15.
However, in beautiful contrast to you and me, our precious Saviour “Committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth.” 1 Peter 2:22.
Wonderfully, he stayed within his Father’s boundaries of life and behaviour right through to his death at Calvary. He only did what his Father allowed.
Right at the end of his life on earth he could say, “I have finished the work which you have given me to do.” John 17:4.
When Jesus had been hanging on the Cross for six hours, suffering the punishment which I deserved, he cried out with a loud voice, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Mark 15:34.
Shortly afterwards, “Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.” Mark 15:37.
Thank you, Jesus, for your perfection in doing your Father’s will from beginning to end.
