Topic: TRIP (08/25/22)
Asking questions is an easy way to aquire knowledge. Applying knowledge to practice produces wisdom. This is how I try to understand God’s Word, the Bible.A questioning mind can find pearls of wisdom scattered throughout the Bible,hidden, in simple phrases or sentences. Although I am not good at it, I do try. However, I must admit that I am not sincere in searching the scriptures. I am guilty of passing over passages that don't interest me. For example, the chapters that record the genealogy of the Jewish people.My pastor once said that every word in the Bible is inspired by God, Himself. These words prompted me to go through the chapters on genealogy and see if I could find hidden truths.

While I was doing this I came across the words, ‘Enoch walked with God and he was no more
(Genesis 5:21-24). In the book of Hebrews I read that Enoch pleased God and was translated to heaven. I know that Enoch could not have literally walked from earth to heaven.My first question was - what did ‘walk’ mean? I figured that walking with a person would mean having close fellowship with him, spending time with him and enjoying his company. With God it would be time spent in prayer, worship, thanksgiving and reading His Word.

My second question was - how long did this trip take? Was it Enoch’s whole life ? If so, only a monk living in a cave in a mountain can achieve such a difficult task. A normal human being burdened with the care, commitments and challenges of life may not be able to do it. Could it be that Enoch spent short periods of time every day with God ? This is feasible. If I could schedule time for walking as a physical exercise for my body, why can't I spend time with God as a spiritual exercise for my mind?

My third question was - how did Enoch please God ? In what way was his walk pleasing to God? Since Enoch walked with God until he went to heaven, it shows he loved to be in God’s company. When one talks to his beloved, the topic does not focus on his needs, his problems, his illnesses or his problems. Expressions of love and joy and peace dominate his conversation. Or in silence they appreciate each other's company. God would be pleased with such a person.

In conclusion, my search has revealed to me that taking short trips from my stressful daily life into the peace of His presence will please my God, and He will lead me gently into HIs Kingdom at the end of my life.

Interesting take on the challenge word.
I read it with great interest because Enoch has always fascinated me, and I too have asked and pondered about Enoch’s walk.
