‘Meet me at the zoo ASAP.’
Intrigued, despite the disruption and the fact that the zoo was closed at this hour, she flew there. She found her teammate outside of the reindeer enclosure with a large lumpy sack at his feet. “Okay, I’m here. What’s the emergency?”
Gravitron shifted from one foot to another and looked at his feet as if looking there for an answer. Finally he began to speak. “You know that I volunteer at the Children’s Home?” She nodded and he continued, “Mr. Simpson, the gentleman who usually plays Santa to hand out gifts to the kids, is in the hospital with a stroke. So I decided to take his place.”
Jenny responded, “Okay, what do I do? I love helping kids anyway.”
Alex sighed in relief. “I hoped you’d say that. I plan on using my morphing belt to make a realistic looking Santa and I was hoping that ‘Mrs Santa’ could provide some Christmas magic for the kids.”
“As I said, I’d love to. What do you need?"
"While I’m flying the sleigh and reindeer in with my gravity powers, I was hoping you could make some snow with your cold powers.”
Jenny squealed, “I’d love to, even if it is a warm night for this time of year!”
Gravitron responded, “Awesome! I’m going to get Santa’s sleigh out of Mr. Simpson’s storage and meet you here in thirty minutes.”
Jenny hugged him and said, “Thanks, Alex. This will be the best Christmas I’ve had in years, helping make kids happy.”
As they started to fly away, they both heard the sound of police sirens. Coldfire said to Gravitron, “Our Christmas "miracle" will have to be postponed.”
He nodded solemnly, as the pair of superheroes put Christmas joy aside for the moment. Following the sirens, it took a matter of a minute to trace the problem. A supercriminal from another town, Lady Freeze, was at the hospital.
When the Light Force pair arrived, the villainess had an EMT by the throat and the woman's skin was turning pale as she started to lose heat to the thermal vampire. Confronting the problem, Gravitron shouted, “Let her go!’
Freeze’s laugh sounded like icicles shattering. She retorted, “Now, now, I’m just enjoying Christmas dinner. Of course, if one of you want to take her place, I’ll gladly accept a substitute, especially you, Coldfire. With your heat I wouldn’t need to eat till next year.”
Coldfire whispered to Gravitron, “Get the EMT away. Speedster told me how to handle her, but it might hurt the victim.”
Gravitron trusted Coldfire implicitly. He gathered himself and flew at the two women, firing a gravity burst to make the EMT superheavy so Freeze would drop her. Once Freeze’s victim was clear, Coldfire hit Freeze with her strongest cold blast. Since the villainess needed heat, the blast dropped her to the ground. As Coldfire stood over her shivering foe she muttered, “All I wanted to do tonight was to help some orphans, not battle a supervillain.”
Freeze, who wasn’t unconscious, just stunned from Coldfire’s attack responded, “Help kids…?" She wept, the tears forming icy streaks on her face. “I’m a villain, but I love kids. They're so innocent. Can I help, before I return to jail, that is?”
“How?” asked Coldfire, her voice radiating suspicion.
“What’re you going to do?”
“Make snow.”
“I can do that. I can even make snowmen that I can animate with my powers.”
Coldfire thought for an instant. “Okay, but hands off the kids. If you try anything...”
Freeze smiled and said, “Of course. Just to see some happy kids' faces will ‘warm’ my heart.”
Coldfire lifted Freeze and carried her to the home, after telepathically informing Gravitron about the change of plans.
‘Santa’ arrived moments later, the silvery glow of his gravity powers looking to the children like Santa magically flying the sleigh. As he landed noisily, the kids rushed out to the embrace of several snowmen being controlled from a distance by Lady Freeze, who whispered to Coldfire, “You will mention this when you take me back to jail? It will help my case to have you as a witness of my good deed.”
Coldfire grinned at the villain. “Sure thing, a Christmas present from me to you.” She added silently, ‘Jesus would.’
