Topic: DEPOSIT (03/11/21)
One of my earliest memories is of my parents taking me to the local bank to open up a savings account. It was a program through my elementary school designed to encourage young people to make an early start on investing in the future. I had the dollars and coins that I had accumulated from birthdays and Christmases past and was excited about being involved in a grown-up activity. When the process was complete, I had a bank book of my own which indicated the amount of my money that was safe and secure within the confines of the bank vault. The term they used was that my money was on deposit. In addition to it being safe and secure, I also would be given interest on my money that would accumulate over time. I left the bank with my precious bank book and the knowledge that I had taken my first step in the process of maintaining my future financial security.

The Bible also uses the term deposit in a similar but more exciting context. It is the Holy Spirit within us that we received when we confessed our faith in Christ that is our guarantee that the eternal life promised by God is ready and waiting for us when we depart this life. In writing to the church in Ephesus the Apostle Paul described the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it. All the riches we have in Jesus are ours and the Holy Spirit is a reminder that what is prepared for us is safe and secure. In writing to the church in Corinth the Apostle Paul referred to Jesus putting His seal upon us and giving us the Holy Spirit as a guarantee that all He has promised us is sure to be given us in full. Jesus reminded His followers not to trust in earthly riches which can be stolen or can wither away but trust in heavenly riches which are eternally safe and secure.

I remember leaving the bank that day with my official blue book indicating that my money had been deposited in the bank where it safely was earning interest and from which I could draw up to the amount in my account. My lunch money might be stolen or lost, but that money was out of reach of thieves or bullies. Yet, as safe as it was, it was finite. As rich as I felt, my deposit at the bank did not allow me access to an infinite supply of riches. Such riches, though of a different kind, are ours in Christ. He promises everything we need for eternal life and instead of an official blue book He gives us His Holy Spirit as a promise. The Spirit dwelling within us is a daily reminder of all we have in Christ and of the promise of eternal life and riches that awaits us when we leave this place and enter into the joy of the Lord.

This is quite profound. I loved the beginning. It's something we can all relate to in one way or another. The second part soothed my heart and the ending brought it all together. Congratulations on ranking 2nd in your level and 12th overall. The highest rankings can be found on the message boards.
