Life for John was infiltrated by madness. His psychosis drove his very thoughts about his self esteem into insanity. For many years he had been plagued. In his mind the voices spoke ill of him, and mocked his very existence. His whole outlook was skewed, torment ate at him. Every day he tried to leave his house, which was his prison, yet paranoia would always win out. And so he would remain locked up in his chains that he partially created, the other part due to a chemical imbalance. For a long time he self medicated with music that he could commiserate with. He continued to pray, but John did not understand why everyone’s prayer were being answered, and his were ignored. Unable to cope, he continued to distance himself from others and grew a bitterness toward the world. Apathy for his life began to grow on him like a weed choking his very strength from him. Consulting with God, he begged for the torment to stop, yet God seemed silent. He would read the scriptures, coming to individual verses that seemed condemning, and so his faith wavered for a time.
Till one day he decided to give Jesus another try. He prayed, “If you are the almighty and you really have concern for me, I will this time give you my whole life, holding nothing back, where as before I had held some things back for myself. This time around if I give you my all, show your self and I shall follow you all the days of my life!” No sooner had he said the words, he felt a peace that could not be manufactured by a human. The room which was now filled with God covered the atmosphere where he sat. He looked up a song and the words brought back meaning to his spirit. Holding noting back, John realized that holding onto his identity had been his mistake, and that that was why he felt ignored. And so John let go of his grip on his life and wept in the arms of Christ. God said, “You are now home my son, and you can start living.”
