Topic: TOWER (01/16/20)
Driving carefully, keeping her eyes in constant motion, Amanda made her way home from a long day at work. She enjoyed her work, loved it at times, but there was nothing like returning to her safe place. She was single so she didn't yet have that special someone to return home to, but her high-rise condominium was still that unique location where she could be completely herself without the danger of exposing herself to the multiple dangers that were inherent in the world.

Moving through the security gate and into the underground parking garage, she began to transition from the intensity of the work environment to the calm introspection of home. Parking in her assigned spot, she exited her sedan and rode the elevator upwards. Growing up she had lived in a one-story home, but now she lived in the clouds and looked down upon the world from a very different vantage point. It wasn't better or worse, it just was.

Putting her key in the door, she unbolted the dead-lock before entering and quickly reengaging the lock. That click always made her feel good. The dangers of the world were real and she was satisfied that she was doing all the right things to keep herself secure. She didn't like to think of herself as an alarmist, she didn't want to be that person looking for trouble everywhere she looked, but life could be scary and she didn't want to be a victim.

A quick wardrobe change replaced her stylish pants and blouse with sweatpants and a t-shirt. There was something about comfortable clothes that put her in just that right state of mind. Pouring herself a tall glass of iced tea, she walked over to the large window that gave her a bird's-eye view of the world below. The late afternoon sun still provided enough light for her to watch those on the street below. She had specifically chosen this condominium for this feature. It provided a safe place for her to watch without having to engage with the unknown.

It was in these times, watching from a place of safety, that she wondered. She was safe in her pleasant tower, but was she missing something? Had she allowed fear to keep her from fulfilling her calling as a follower of Christ? Had she made safety an idol? All good questions, but she had no answers. For now she watched, waited, thought, prayed, and pondered and hoped that in time the answers would come and she would be changed.

Safety and security have always been important to me. But it is important for a single person to be safe

Your piece was a different take on tower and left me thinking how I sometimes isolate myself from the outside world.
