Heartsick. What do you think of when you hear that word? I think of the sadness I’ve brought on myself, things I wish I could turn back in time to and do differently. It mades me heartsick that I can’t.

I think regret has to be one of the saddest words in the English language. Every time I hear the song "My Way,” I think what a crock the words are. Do you really think anyone has had “too few regrets to mention?” Like someone once said, you can't say, "Thy kingdom come" without first saying "my kingdom go." The person who chooses to live his life his way will certainly have more than a few regrets when he meets his Maker.

Shortly before my dad died my mom mentioned that it hurt Dad's feelings when we called and only talked to her. I made a mental note to always talk to him, too. Two days before he died I had a lengthy conversation with my mom. As we were wrapping it up she made a point to of asking if I'd like to talk to Dad. I was pressed for time and said I'd be sure talk to him next time. There wouldn't be a next time.

My younger brother never forgot to call me on my birthday. On my 40th he called and left me a sweet message, teasing me about being "over the hill." He called me a second time and even though I looked and saw that it was him I decided I'd call him back when it was more "convenient." There would be no "convenient" time—I never got a chance to talk to him again. He died in a place crash exactly seven days after my birthday.

These are just a couple of examples of me making myself heartsick. Thankfully, God doesn’t want us to wallow in the mistakes of our past, in fact He wants us to keep our thoughts set on “the prize” promised to all His children—a joyful eternity with Him and our loved ones who have gone before us.

“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)

Oh what self-blame you must have endured. I loved your line: "Thy kingdom come" without first saying "my kingdom go." That was great! I did see some typos. I learned that if your read your piece backwards, it's easier to catch typos, extra words and spacing issues. It's tedious, but it works! So glad that God forgives us so that we don't need to carry the blame.

You make some great points in this piece. I've had many regrets as well and we never know when it might be the last time we see someone. I think your take on the topic was fresh and the message powerful. Good job.
