One of her supervillains, Lady Freeze, had been released on medical grounds. Shortly thereafter, to maintain the environment she needed to stay alive, she was seen at a homeless shelter feeding on the clients by sucking out their body heat. Belinda gulped down the remainder of her dinner and left to confront the killer.
Upon arriving at the shelter, Speedster peered around the door to see several frozen corpses, and Freeze with her hands around a woman, who was turning blue as she froze to death. Feeling pity for her adversary, Speedster spoke up from the doorway. “Didn’t get enough from the animals you were feed in prison? Looks like you’ll have to go back on that diet again.”
Lady Freeze snarled, “Speedster, I’m hungry, and the feral animals they gave me to consume in prison just didn’t do it for me. If you care about these unfortunates... come take this woman’s place,” she challenged in a mocking tone of voice.
Speedster wasn’t going to fall for that kind of taunt, so she stepped out of the doorway and jogged to Freeze. Freeze wasn't that much of a physical threat as long as she didn’t try to feed off of her. However, Lady Freeze didn’t wait for Speedster to get much closer. She sprayed the floor between them with a slick coating of ice.
As expected, Speedster slipped and ended up flat on her back with a loud grunt of pain. As she tried to rise, Freeze encased her legs in ice that quickly became as dense as steel. Freeze then dropped her shivering victim to the carpet and strolled towards the trapped Speedster. Her breath puffing out vapor even in the warmth of the late summer day, she sneered at Belinda, “Hope you're feeling warm in that costume, my little snack.”
Speedster watched as Lady Freeze approached, and had an idea as to how to move on the slick ice coating the floor. She beat at the ice ten-thousand times a minute, breaking up the ice. The force of the blows knocked Freeze off her feet. Using a skill she had learned in college, Belinda hand-walked at Freeze, who was nearly back up on her feet, swinging her ice encased feet at her foe. Lady Freeze fell unconscious, which allowed Belinda to take a few seconds to free her feet.
Racing carefully over the floor to the woman Freeze had been feeding on when she arrived, she began using her super speed to rub the woman’s limbs, face and torso to help revive her. The time spent could have been used to return Lady Freeze to jail, but innocents always came first for Speedster.
In a few seconds, color had returned to the volunteer, and she was able to point with a shaking hand as Lady Freeze walked quietly out the door, repairing the sheet of ice she had used to trip Speedster up. Speedster raced towards her and sprawled on the floor, a victim of her own speed. This time the villain didn’t stop to encase her feet, so she was able to get up and creep after Freeze.
Once was outside the shelter, she decided to use a more strategic approach to curtailing the icy murderess. Speedster had seen a chain-link fence being torn down around an office building, and raced the half block to where it was being removed. The workmen had stopped work when they saw the superpowered women leave the shelter, so she encountered no resistance as she took several yards of fencing away and raced around Freeze to hold her for the police.
After she corralled the ice villain, Freeze uttered a steaming volume of epithets at her, so with some irony Speedster grabbed a racoon that was eating from a nearby trash can and stuffed it in Freeze’s mouth. In the silence that followed, Speedster smirked. ”Hope it'll hold you till the cops get here to take you back to jail.” As she raced home, she realized that she didn’t feel any of the usual regret she often felt when she couldn’t get her adventures on tape for her job. She decided the people of the city didn’t need to see their heroine fall on her back twice like a clumsy teenager.
