“Tell us, Onad, how my daughter Lucy in whom I delight finally came to position herself for promotion,” God said.
“She started faithfully using the gift you gave her, Lord,” Onad answered humbly.
“Yes, of course. Tell us the events that spurred her into action, starting with her condition the last time we spoke of her,” God said.
Onad didn’t answer hastily. Lucy was a true worshipper. She delighted in the Lord through every variety of hell on earth she had experienced. That fact made her a hero to angels. How could he expound the details of the bondage Lucy had lived in for several years without making her look foolish?
“While she waited on You for the fulfillment of promises, Lucy had been lured into complacency through the television, her diet, and neglect of the scriptures,” Onad began. “That was when we last discussed Lucy.
“The first action I took was to prolong an unjust deed against her. I whispered to her employers to continue to block the deserved pay raise that was long overdue for Lucy. Cost of living had been rising steadily, and her financial strain required her to carefully examine her finances for the purpose of making a change. Having gained her attention, I reminded Lucy that she was supposed to have canceled her cable television service, to better serve You. Lucy had been disobedient to that instruction a year earlier, held captive by reruns like Golden Girls, Who’s the Boss, and current favorites American Idol and Monk.
“No longer having a choice in the matter, she canceled cable. That action started a domino effect. Lucy began to read, and she remembered that she had a gift that You wanted her to use,” Onad said.
“Writing,” God said.
“Yes, she began to write again. Then, with her mind sharp, Lucy realized that she didn’t look like a bride made ready. One day she wrote in her journal that she is supposed to be the crown of her future husband, but she looked more like a cow,” Onad said, sharing laughter at Lucy’s sense of humor with the listening audience.
“She began to exercise and eat right. Then Lucy’s mind was really clear. She obeyed immediately when I whispered that she needed to give scriptures a priority in her daily life again. She went almost directly to Barnes and Noble bookstore and bought the devotional Bible that I led her to. She’d had one like it years before and had given it away, but it was always her favorite,” Onad said.
“Good job, Onad,” God said. “My chosen one is positioned and ready for the allotted time of promotion, all because she started using her gift of writing instead of sitting in front of the television – thanks to you.
“Do you have anything to add, Onad? Any concerns?”
“There’s just one thing, Lord. The newest season of American Idol has just begun, and she is tuning in on her 5-inch black and white portable television. At the same time, though, she is still writing and continuing with all of the other good habits she has developed,” Onad concluded.
“Yes, that’s fine, thank you, Onad,” God said. Then, sternly, “Since we’re on that subject, will the angel who is supposed to try and control Simon Cowell’s mouth please step forward next?”
