Just for you! News, weather, sports, and all your favorite programming. I can place them at your fingertips any time. I’m your Big Screen. Trust me to entertain you, to make you laugh or cry.
When I was just a young box sitting in the corner of the living room, I watched my words and minded my manners. Now that I’ve grown up and invaded every room in the house with the Big Screen, that’s no longer true. I cuss with the best. What positive influence I had has nearly vanished.
I’m especially good at watching your children, or rather having them watch me. Even babies watch TV and absorb much more than most people ever imagine. They hear and see, and it goes into their subconscious mind setting thought patterns for years to come. For the first time I can influence your kids and mold their thinking from day one. Just put them in front of me, and I’ll be glad to entertain them to their death.
I love to influence your kids to do the wrong things and enable them to see things they don’t need to see. Yes, I know all about parental control, and so does Billy Jr. It’s a simple matter for him to unlock the controls, watch what he wants, and then reset the controls. Dad and mom may never know what he’s watching.
With help from my buddies in the media, I give you inaccurate information, but it is the news you thought you always wanted to hear. If you let me, I can persuade you to buy things you neither need nor want, and really can’t afford. I have convinced millions of Americans that marriage is old-fashioned, and abortion is okay.
I can control your time and help you throw it away. I can also do your thinking for you. Just tune me in, and the creative edge God gave you will begin to disappear. But then, it takes work to think. Don’t you think that really is too much trouble?
There’s still more. I can keep you up on the latest fashions, and help you find information. Even if you think you’re not paying attention to the ads, you can wind up paying for all kinds of ‘free stuff’ that’s offered. I’ll give you helpful hints on how to lose weight, buy a house, and find an attorney. Oh, and we mustn’t forget the political ads. I’ll show you how to vote!
What’s so sad, I still have great potential. Like the power of words, I have power for good or for evil. I can be used in so many positive ways. When the right programs are watched, and the right DVD’s are inserted, I can teach many things. I can visualize things to help you think, grow, and become a better person. But will I? That depends on how you use me. It depends on whether I control you or you control me. The choice is yours. I don’t like to say this, but I will. Sometimes the wisest thing you can do is to turn me off with a click of the remote.
