Topic: WEATHER (07/19/18)
Peering out her large front window, Linda frowns as the blue sky of only a few hours previously has been replaced by large, black clouds and wind-driven rain that appears to be falling nearly sideways. Involuntarily, her eyes shift toward the large clock that her late husband had so proudly displayed on the mantle and which she cannot find it inside her to move. If she is going to be on time then she has to leave right now. She takes a deep breath to calm her spirit.

"Help me, Lord to trust you. The night is harsh, but you are my peace. Amen."

Bundling up well, Linda steps out into the storm. Sliding into her trusty sedan, she smiles as the car comes to life and allows her to successfully move into city traffic. The dark of night and the presence of steady wind and rain make driving a challenge. Fear pushes at the edges of her spirit, but she is committed to entrusting her way to her Lord. A sharp sense of thankfulness comes over her as she pulls into the back lot of the small church where she has faithfully fellowshipped for over thirty years. It is not the largest church in the area, but the people are warm and they truly care for one another. She pulls into a spot not too far from the kitchen door and breathes a sigh of relief.

"Thank you, Lord, for bringing me here safely. Give me your heart for those that we will serve tonight."

She locks her car securely before rushing toward the safety of the kitchen. She steps inside to see the faces of other faithful servants.

"Linda, we didn't think you'd make the effort tonight."

She smiles at Georgia, the kitchen matron. She is a ball of fire for Jesus.

"Why wouldn't I be here?"

As she speaks she removes some layers and immediately joins in the work. There is always work because there is always need.

"The storm is really bad. I didn't think you'd want to brave it."

Linda thinks about what she is saying. She knows there is truth in it and that, honestly, she did think those same things.

"I thought about not coming, but then I thought about the people we serve. They don't have a choice. They deal with the weather every day. I figured I could suffer some light affliction for those my Lord loves so much."

"Well said, Linda, let's get these people fed."

Good job developing the story and the choice of the mc.
The first sentence felt a little awkward but otherwise I enjoyed how the story flowed together.

I love that your MC overcame feelings of 'self' to honour her commitment to help others. I agree your first sentence felt a little awkward but easily fixed if broken into two shorter sentences (30+ words is a bit unwieldy). The dialogue worked well, too.
