With a contented sigh, Laurie turns the oven to the correct temperature and places her creation within to bake. She enjoys cooking large portions because she never wants her home to be less than full. Her ministry is hospitality and she exercises that gift with enthusiasm.

As her guests begin to arrive, she greets them, points them to the back where an empty table will soon be full and drinks are available. The temperate climate in which she lives, close to, but not on the water, makes dining outside in the early evening a taste of paradise. Each person that enters has a unique story and she enjoys being a source of joy in lives that sometimes struggle to find any. Some are having a good day, most aren't, but are all happy for a reprieve from the challenges of life.

Finally she takes the meal out of the oven. She is not the best cook, not the worst, but she does her best. Her opportunity is to provide a place of refuge for those who others have tossed aside. She is committed to reaching out to the least of these and is willing to do whatever is necessary to make that happen. She recruits help and in a short time the table is set, people are seated around, and they are ready for a banquet.

"Let us pray. Father, Lord, we thank you for your many blessings. May we receive them with gladness and joy. Amen."

Conversation abounds as her guests dig in. She looks about and thinks about another meal to come with seating farther than the eye can see and she smiles.

I really enjoyed the premise of this piece and the character your introduced, but I wanted to know more -- where was she? How did she get started with this ministry? I think there is a lot that your could really play with and develop.
