These are beautiful words from our Heavenly Father's heart through our Precious Savior's lips. It is an invitation to everyone who is struggling under a heavy burden to come to Him, but that is not all. He tells us what we will find when we come. We will find rest. This is our Heavenly Father's desire for each of us. His heart is so gracious to His children, for He does not qualify His invitation with stipulations. He does not say, "Come only if…" His offer is to all no matter what they have been through or what they have done.
God does not look at our past and He does not memorize our sins. It is because He is not a God of the past. He is a "today" God; a "now" God, an ever-present help in a time of trouble (Psalm 46:1). His name is I AM, and He loves us unconditionally, seeing us spotless through His Son's perfect sacrifice. He IS our place of rest.
What is it that weighs heavily,
Upon your travailing heart,
Emotions of despondency and hopelessness,
Seemingly never from your tormented soul to depart?
It is true, you have been austerely damaged,
In a life filled with hardship, suffering and woe,
But there is One who can give you blessed hope,
A safe Refuge in whom you can securely go.
He is One who is not frenzied with fretfulness,
By the iniquity your soul has rigorously carried,
For He knows all your sin and depravity,
At His Crucifixion was forever dealt with and eternally buried.
Thus, exchange your weariness and weighty burdens,
That have concerned your fragile soul so grim,
And take upon you His perfect peace gladly offered,
Where you will find your immeasurable solace in Him.
He awaits you, sweet innocent child,
As an affectionate groom eagerly awaits His beautiful bride,
Anticipating embracing you with His boundless love,
Seating you everlastingly, forevermore at His side.
For you were created for freedom,
Wonderfully experiencing only God's best,
Unhindered and untethered from burdens and bondages,
To live infinitely in God's continuous rest.
