“My most prized possession is my calendar collection. Now, I know many of you will ask me, “Why?”, “You actually keep your calendars from year to year?”, and “How many do you have?”. The answers are simple. I keep them because they remind me of my past and how much I am loved by God. I write my deepest longings, my most fervent prayers, and my surprising answers in those tiny little boxes each day, or at least once a week. When finished I have a snapshot of my whole entire year and something to look back on to remember the faithfulness I don’t always see in the day to day trenches of life. That is exactly how I spend my first few days of a new year. By looking back at where I have come from, I have a great idea of where I am heading.“
“Why do I use calendars? In December, you have an array of choices for relatively cheap. I am soooooooooo easy to shop for every Christmas. In addition, they are much lighter than journals to carry around when I move. Why would I not keep a calendar from year to year? Each one is unique and by looking at the faces I remember each year. My first year was dogs and when I was ten I had cats. The year I turned 14, my sister got married and sent me a calendar from her honeymoon in Hawaii.”
“So, yes. I do keep my calendars in a collection."
"For the record, I have one for every year from the age of 8. I am now 17. I plan on adding to the collection till the day I die. Any questions?”
“What is your favorite calendar?”, Lizzie’s best friend asked.
“I would have to say, Macy, that last year’s would be my favorite. In honor of my first niece’s birth I chose a calendar with cute babies. Any more questions? Yes, Mark.”
“You mentioned answered prayers. Any in particular you want to share?”
“Good question. I had someone anonymously give me money for this past summer’s mission trip to Mongolia. The money was literally put into my bank account and I know it was not a mistake.“
Lizzie looked up and saw her teacher giving the signal to move on to the next student’s essay.
“Thank you all for listening and I hope one day you will remember that calendars are great record keepers!”
