There are several groups saying this is all a dream and even say God would not destroy a city or a nation. The Bible says God would not have destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah if he could have found only ten righteous soul. . Genesis,18:32 " And he said I will not destroy it for ten's sake." Today, the Christians in our country may be a minority but they may be enough people to keep God from destroying our cities and nation.
You can believe it, God will destroy cities even in our times. My first wife and I visited Pompeii when I was stationed in Athens, Greece with the Air Force. This city was destroyed on August 24, 79 AD by Mt Vesuvius and many think because of the judgment of God because the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD by Roman Ruler Titus.
In those days the Temple of Apollo was the most important religious structure in the city. On the day of the destruction, two sacrifices were performed, one for Augustus the ' Father of the Nation", and second was for the " Guardian Spirit Of the City." The city of 20,000 was noted for its sinful nature even in those days.
With the city buried under tons of ash for centuries the people and culture were preserved from that day. The excavations in recent times revealed things everyone was surprised to find. Even the household items had a sexual theme. The culture of that day was more liberal than today's present day culture, we find in our nation.
In 1619, King Francis of nearby Naples visited the sites in Pompeii with his wife and immediately ordered them closed to visitors as they were an insult to humanity. Over the years the sites have been opened and closed. But with the sexual revolution of 1960, the city of old Pompeii. was reopened, however, no minor children are allowed.
I pray our nation will return to God for his guidance and protection before it is too late. We see in the Bible and world history that he can be provoked to anger if we continue to turn to our evil ways.
