My father always put an offering in the collection plate in church each Sunday, as it was the priority in our family, even during the depression years. The Lord did not forget his servant and in later years blessed our family over and over. My siblings and I were raised praising the Lord for all the blessings we received, as we tried to walk in His footsteps.
We also knew times were difficult, however, our parents might surprise us with that something special that we thought was out of the question. When we received a gift from our parents did we promptly thank them? I recall as a parent, that I felt good when my children would smile and thank my wife and I, in their way of appreciation.
If we as adults feel we need something, where do we look for an answer? The most powerful tool God has given us is Prayer. We read in Acts 6:4, " But we will give ourselves continually to prayer ---;" and in Matthew 7:7, " Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Yes, the Lord is there to answer our prayers if we only call on him, believing our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will carry our burden or supply our needs.
When we receive a blessing that comes to us in the form of physical, material, or spiritual blessings, do we give praise and thanks to our Lord? In Psalm 71:8, we read, " Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day." The more we praise the Lord, the more he wants to please us.
We are his servant and sometimes we let pride get in the way, thinking we accomplished this or that, but we are nothing without our Lord leading us on the pathway of our life. Remember our Lord is a friend like none other and he has a way of turning things around for us. As the Bible tells us in Romans 8:31," If God is for us, who can be against us?"DF
