Topic: Trust and Obey (don't write about the song) (05/21/15)
Five credit card companies queried whether or not we had applied for their new and improved cards. Nope.


Our bank called to ask if we applied for a credit card, knowing we only used our debit cards. Nope.


Checking our bank account, we discovered $299.99 fraudulently paid to AT&T. Joy. We need a new telephone, and someone took our checking account to pay for their own.


Whee. Our small business account was hijacked to pay close to $150 to companies we never heard of: Frontier Legacy Consu and Billmatrix?


We put too much trust in our bank. Glaringly obvious. We keep our credit cards unused unless an emergency comes up. Now we are cutting up our cards. Praying it isn't too late. We are toying with the idea of closing both bank accounts and using money orders. Aargh.


We have an address: 90 SE 73rd, Portland, Or. Two of the credit card companies offered this information from the culprit. They called us because the address and telephone number differed from their records. Thank God.


The address is for a bank of condominiums.


We have a very impressively imposing acquaintance who volunteered to go to that address and knock on every door to holler "What are you doing with my money?"


Very tempting offer indeed. Our friend, a giant of a man, had to be soothed quickly before he got himself in well-meaning trouble. More help offered by him than from our local police department.


What does this do to trust? Where do we place our trust? This present world would tell us to trust in the banks and trust in the police. Yup.


We have no business trusting businesses. Too many folk look for opportunities to take advantage of suckers like me. I, wide-eyed and trusting have a "kick me" sign on my back.


Oh sure - I use every method to protect our identity. Tearing off signatures, blacking out Social Security numbers, account numbers et al. A toothsome shredder imagines the damage it could do to the hearts of those wanting to steal our identity.


Do we trust foolishly, putting out our trash for the removers of things potentially damaging to our not-so-sheltered lives? Ungodly urges spurt - put our dog's "leavings" in bags that hold papers. "Vengeance is Mine, saith the Lord . . ."


Here is where obedience kicks in. Yes, I will be willing to prosecute when the culprits are apprehended. And I will pray for these lost souls desperately needing the saving grace of our risen Lord. I trust Jesus to "make things right" while carefully monitoring the bank accounts.


Being the victims of identity fraud is galling. I feel violated, exposed and suffocating with fright. But we have our Lord, and praise God - we have Him to cling to. And beyond willingness, I am desiring to crawl into His waiting Arms for comfort and a good perch to see how He designs His purpose even through the confusing tangles life throws at us.
