Darkness can conjure up images of danger, of unknowns you can’t see, but images that cause you to experience fear and anxiety. Day on the other hand brings about thoughts of brightness, of safety and you experience peace. How can two simple words cause such opposite reactions?
If we take this concept a bit further, we find that light and dark as well as black and white lead us to a new set of words. This new set of words carries the concept of day and night to a different level. We are no longer imagining various changes in light or color, but changes in life style and character.
In old westerns, we became acquainted with the color concept of black and white. The good guys always wore white hats and the bad guys always wore black hats. Even in the days before color television, viewers could distinguish black from white on the television screen. Those who grew up in my era understand this concept well.
Day is the time to do things outside when visibility is good. We do yard work, shopping, seeing a doctor and going to school in the day time. Of course, there are exceptions because our world runs on a twenty-four seven schedule. But most of the time, we are out and about in the daylight hours.
Before electricity became available in homes across the world, when it got dark activities came to a halt. People went inside where a candle or a lamp of some sort provided the only light until the sun came up again. Unlike today when work and play proceed throughout the nighttime hours.
The new set of words I mentioned before is good and evil. So, we come from day and night, to black and white, to light and dark all the way to good and evil. How? Concepts are planted in our brains when we are children. As a child, I remember people who would never walk in a graveyard at night, but thought nothing about walking there in the daylight.
What is the difference? A graveyard is full of deceased people in the day and in the night. Why is fear heightened when it gets dark? The Bible says, “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.” John 3: 20 NKJV. Therefore, most crime occurs at night or in dark places where it is difficult to identify the criminal.
In the day, the light pushes the darkness (evil) away. Some studies say the light of a single candle can be seen in the dark for three to ten miles. Just a small amount of light can cause the darkness to flee.
Then God said, “let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. Genesis 1: 3-5 NKJV.
Conclusion: God created the cycle of day and night. So, they aren’t bad. We, God’s children have light (Jesus) in us that can dispel the darkness (evil) in our world. All we need to do is release the light and…let it shine!

Love the title! Brings to mind the Christian Gospel song, "This little Light of Mine, I'm gonna make it shine."
God Bless~
It took me some time to figure out which article was yours, but now, since this weeks challenge is over it was a little easier. You are right, there are many similarities between our ideas on day and night.
I like articles like yours. Clear and to the point and it was simply a very good written piece and made me reflect.
It would serve well as a blog post. God bless you.
Kind regards.
