Harold Clusteridge was a shifty kind of character who didn’t allow any grain of sand stick to his sandals. He was so busy making deals he wasn’t sure in which direction he was heading. There were so many schemes to promote, victims to exploit; and making money in every way, was his mantra.

Like the time he was in real estate. Oh the houses he sold, never mind telling about mould in the basement room, or that the riding lawn mower as part of the deal was really a piece of junk. Not his fault people believed what he had to say; smooth talking man that he was.

To supplement a growing bank account, Harold sold used appliances with missing parts, shingled older homes with no carpenter skills. Yes he thought, those early days were fun.

As the years passed, making money quickly as he could didn’t have the same fizz. Gambling at the Racetrack was his plum. And he was lucky. Showing off his newest car was surely a treat for his friends, making sure all saw his shiny red BMW. Indeed he was a big fish in a little pond.

Years faded and his bank account grew, property and investment portfolios enlarged and yet something was missing. For the first time in many years Harold had the urge to go to church. Not understanding why or how – it was the Holy Ghost knocking on his heart. No time he thought and jumped into his car. Perhaps a drive about town checking out buildings he owned may bring some peace to his soul.

Harold drove everywhere, honking and waving at those he thought he knew. Most did not acknowledge him. How could they? He had little time developing friendships during his search for financial gain. Strange he suddenly thought, an unknown street coming into view.

Curiosity allowed him to turn and drive slowly noticing there were no buildings, only a strange scene – birds of all description humming their songs. They flipped and dipped and caressed each branch creating songs in a path of happiness. The road ended where a beautiful tree-filled park began. Sitting on a bench, one man was obviously enjoying the serenity of this place.

He motioned Harold to come and he quickly parked his earthly treasure. Harold walked a short distance to this man, and noticed swirling surround him. They looked like angels, and they were humming in an orchestra of sounds. Harold's heart began to quiver with joy as a wave of love swept over him. He paused in front of this stranger. Who was he?

Seeming to read Harold’s mind, an answer arrived from a head flowing with thick hair, and searching blue eyes, “I am who I am – Jesus; what took you so long?”

With flowing tears, Harold fell to his knees, a prayer tumbling from his lips. It began with the words – “Jesus, please forgive me -- a sinner.”
