There is one big difference. The people living on the Bride’s side are continually looking up in expectancy excited at the promise of the coming of the Groom. No one knows when He will come, but are told it could be any minute. They are busy making preparations to welcome Him. They do not want to have a spot or wrinkle in their beautiful gowns.
In A World of Hurt, people go about their daily business. Many are hurting, but consider it to be normal. Pain is rampant, but they do not know what to do about it. They try different things to dull the ache, none of which alleviates it for more than a short while. They see those on the other side of the fence and wander over to it for a better look.
Sinnerella is one of those. She sees Bridetania and calls to her.
“Bridetania, the grass looks really green over there, how is it that everyone there doesn’t seem to be in pain as we are here in A World of Hurt?”
Bridetania stops meditating on the Word long enough to answer Sinnerella.
“Oh, hello, Sinnerella, it is good to get to talk to you. I see you working over there, but you don’t seem to be happy. Why is that? I feel sorry for your struggle.”
“I do live in a battle all the time, except for the few times I get to party with my friends, Sam Guilty and Nobody Loves Me. We do stuff to forget our pain, but it just comes roaring back. How is it that you live a better life?”
Bridetaina walks over to the fence and rests her chin on her hand.
“Don’t you remember? I used to live over there with you. I saw the people over here and wanted desperately to be really happy like they were. I asked them the same question and they told me about how Jesus made a way over the fence that separated us. I was so happy to learn of it. I am very happy now, we are all preparing for the Groom to come back for us. It could be any minute and you don’t want to be messing around over there when he does. Why don’t you come over to this side of the fence too?”
Trying to straighten her torn and dirty dress, Sinnerella says, “Well, I thought about it, but I think I’d miss all the fun my friends are having. In fact, Ricky Rejection, Lilly Liar, I Don’t Deserve, and Lucy Lascivious are all planning a big bash tonight. I wouldn’t want to miss that. Surely the Groom won’t come at night. If he does, I’ll run and jump over the fence. That’s why I stay close to it. Tomorrow I’ll stay right on top of it. You know the Groom is a God of love. He wouldn’t leave me out of your party. He loves me too.”
Bridetania’s eyes drop in sadness as a tear slips down her beautiful pristine cheek. She observes to the right of her, Olivia Overcomer, Sally Altogether Lovely, and Maggie Missionary as they go about their day preparing for the Groom. Joy beams from their faces.
“You’re right, the Groom loves all of us, but it makes Him very sad, and it even sickens Him to see those He loves being unprepared for His coming. A fence runner is in great danger. He is coming for those who are fully committed to Him. Won’t you come to Him now? You know that Jesus is the only door. Sitting on the fence won’t save you if you see Him coming.”
Sinnerella’s heart softens for a moment as she tries to smooth her dirty, tangled hair.
“But, but I really do love the fun we have here in A World of Hurt. Just a little longer wouldn’t be so bad would it?”
“That’s a question only you can answer, but I wouldn’t take that chance. Besides look at all you’re missing over here. Don’t wait too long, because a fence runner doesn’t get anywhere.”
