Philip began to speak. “ My dear brothers & sisters! I am so glad that I am with you this evening. Let us spend some time meditating on the life of King Solomon…”
He had been teaching in the local medical school till he left a couple of months ago. A group of believing students from that school met once a fortnight to fellowship together. When he was in town, he had been a mentor to them. He left his teaching position in that school, months ago. He was now working in another town far away.
Deepa, one of the leaders of that fellowship group had requested Philip to come and share God’s word with them all.
As Philip continued to speak, slowly the clouds gathered and it began to rain.
Some thirty odd students were sitting on a carpet in the chapel, listening attentively. Some of them had been Philip’s students earlier. Some had newly joined the school.
Soon, just as he was expounding the phases of the life of King Solomon, the rain too gathered momentum. It became a heavy downpour. Philip had to shout aloud, competing with the drumming sound of the rain!
The meeting was about to end. Philip was to leave and catch a train. But the deluge continued. The Railway station was quite far. “Dear Lord, how can I make it to the station in this downpour?” prayed Philip silently. Usually one of the boys would drop him off on their bikes. But the deluge made that impossible!
Suddenly Carl, one of the fellowship members arrived in his car. “ I wanted to find out something and rang Deepa. She told me that there is a meeting and so I began coming here. As it was pouring, I decided to bring my car. I will take Philip to the Railway Station.”
Philip silently praised God. His faith in Jehovah-Jireh, the All-sufficient provider, was rejuvenated as they began the ride to the Station. The roads were full of water. Many of the smaller vehicles were stalled in the rain. “ How abundantly the Lord provides for me need” mused Philip as he sat comfortably in the car. They could reach the Station in time to catch his train.
After bidding his friends goodbye, Philip relaxed in his seat in the train. He closed his eyes first and sent a silent poem of praise and gratitude to God.
“Dear Heavenly Father,” he prayed, “ How abundantly you provide for your children. My heart is full of thanks and praise to You Father. You have given me one more reason why I should be ever thankful to you. Lord, just like this deluge of rain, you shower me with so many lovely blessings. All I have and am is because of your great mercy and compassion. May Your Name be always exalted above all in the Universe. Thank you so much for this deluge: both the physical one and the one of blessings upon me. Thank you Lord, thank you.”
