It started as a normal day. I was up early, and so stoked to get out the door. A few days earlier I had turned twelve years old. I’m finally old enough to leave the house without my Mother. Today was the first day she was letting me go out on my own. Excitement was bubbling up inside me in anticipation of what I might see. I danced around the room as my mother packed a snack. I tried to wait patiently, after all food meant I could stay out even longer!

Finally, she handed me the food and I bolted out the door. I could hear her last second instructions trailing behind me as I headed for the market place. The bright colors of the merchant’s stalls were dazzling in the morning sunlight. Somehow it all seemed more brilliant today. Freedom is a sweet thing; I seized every moment of it!

As the morning slipped by, the fields were calling my name. Although there is excitement in the city, I love the sights of the open pastures. The deep greens of the grass contrasting the blues of the sea makes me feel at home. I raced to be in my favorite wide open space.

As I crested the rocky hill I was surprised by the crowd below. No one ever comes out here besides the shepherds of course. Why was everyone here? There seemed to be a man in the center of it all. Who was He? Oh what an exciting mystery! I knew I had to get closer to see why so many had come to hear Him speak. I crept down the hill and wriggled my way through the crowd to get a closer look.

Listening intently to Him, His words were powerful yet gentle. They called Him “Rabbi”. Yes, He is definitely a teacher. I know I’m just a kid, but I understood what He was saying. This is important, very important. People were being healed of all sorts of sickness. You should’ve been there it was awesome. Not awesome like how my friends call things awesome but this was way cooler than anything I’ve ever seen.

Then it happened. His followers asked for my food. I shared my bread and fish but how many could that feed? He took the food, thanked me and prayed over the food. Then the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen happened. With my little snack, they fed everyone. There had to be thousands of people there. It was a sight to see! Really you have to believe me. Giving Him what I had was all He asked and He blessed many with it. I’ll never forget it. I wish you could have seen it.
