was born a tiny tadpole fair.
She wiggled here and swam off there,
having fun, without a care.
Then one fine day she suddenly
became a little Miss Froggy.
Known to all as Sweet Lily,
she dressed in all her finery,
and out she set her prince to win,
ably helped by kith and kin,
and fortified by tonic gin
(for little frogs, this was no sin!)
She saw Fred Frog, and was impressed
to see him in red breeches dressed,
with lilac shirt, all neatly pressed,
and blue silk tie, his very best!
She edged up close, fluttering her eyes
in quite the very sweetest guise,
hoping so hard to win the prize -
this puffy toad who looked so wise!
He leaned across and whispered too,
"My little dear, how do you do!"
And thus Fred Frog began to woo,
and for her hand, kind things to do.
Then came the time, one of sheer bliss,
the day he hoped to make her his.
He bent the knee, before his miss,
and she his warts began to kiss.
But suddenly a fearsome call,
like that of a strong lion’s roar,
broke through "Grrr! Grrr! The spell can fall!
I will not be a frog no more!"
There stood a man, no more young Fred
in lilac shirt and breeches red.
Poor Lily cried, "My sweetheart's dead!
My kiss has killed him. We’ll not wed!"
But gallant was the handsome lad,
he would not leave her feeling sad.
Indeed, he longed to make her glad!
And so he kissed her, as she had.
Once again a fearsome call,
like that of a strong lion’s roar,
broke through "Grr! Grr! The spell can fall!
I will not be a frog no more!"
And thus the princess came to be,
with shiny eyes and heart so free.
And they were wed beyond the lee,
Sir Frederick and his dear lady.
And all who saw his happy face,
and Lily dressed in finest lace,
exclaimed with joy, "This was a case
where love broke through,
and 'grr!' was 'grrace'"!
