My best friend said, “Alice, you don’t have to be so preachy, being preachy does not win souls to the Lord.” Carol continued on in her singing voice, “You have to sneak up on sinners in this day and time to get them converted to the Lord. This generation does not want to hear one thing about Jesus, and believe me, I watched while you were speaking and about one-fourth of those teenagers left the building”.
I said, “Carol we are so very privileged to be inside schools, this is where Jesus needs to be. Bad people have been trying to take Jesus out of schools for a long time. We need to preach him as hard and as fast as we can. Jesus said to preach the word and he did not say to do it in secret. We need to scream Jesus from every roof top. We might be the only Bible that some of these children will ever read”!
By the way, Carol, did you notice which scripture they skipped the building on, “was it”, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me or maybe it was this one, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
I kept on talking, I needed to convince her. “Carol, by now you should know that I don’t care if they call me preachy, when God said go, I went, and I plan on keeping it up until my name is called in glory. I want to hear him say, “Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of the Lord.”
We have to teach the world about the love of Jesus; we are his body, his voice, his hands, his feet, and he needs us. We Christians have to deliver the Word of God to this lost and dieing generation. Without us there is little hope. We are the messengers of God because he said in his word to go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Carol and I are traveling ministers for the Lord, going from state to state getting into every high school gymnasium we can get into and sometimes our opinions about things do not match up, but we remain friends through it all and work it all out for the joy of the Lord is our strength.
All the children had exited the building and Carol and I were collecting the equipment and winding cords and we were almost done and then I heard it, cheers coming from somewhere In the distance, suddenly I looked and behold the gym was full again to overflow.
I looked at Carol and then an arm went around me as she clung to me and both of us were shaking all over from head to toe.
It was generation after generation of parents and grandmothers and grandfathers, sister and brothers of that town, relatives who had gone on before and paved the road that leads from earth to heaven. We could see their eyes of appreciation and the glow that was on their face lit that gym up like the shine of the sun.
They did not say a word, but the song on their lips filled the air and Carol and I just sung along…….”Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me”.
When we got to the part of…..”When we’ve been there ten thousand years bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’ve first begun,” they raised their hands in a victory sign and slowly faded into thin air.
Carol and I have never been the same and we will never be the same again. We take line after line of preachy material into all those high school gymnasiums. We wear special uniforms made just for us, purple and gold sweaters in the winter and T-shirts in the summer. The logo reads, “Brown Nose for Jesus”!
How about it, come on join us, be a brown nose for Jesus!
