My summer raiment withered and gone
Weep not for my passing, neither sigh
Naked beneath the damp earth I lie
All seasons end and each must die
My life has passed, my time is done
Naked beneath the damp earth I lie
My summer raiment withered and gone
Autumn chill blows in
And dry leaves colour the ground;
Red, orange and brown
Dark and icy silence enfolds my form
My blanket is the chilly winter frost
No gravestone marks this resting place forlorn
Dark and icy silence enfolds my form
Snowflakes that by wintry gales are borne
Enshroud the earth until all color’s lost
Dark and icy silence enfolds my form
My blanket is the chilly winter frost
Snowmelt water spills
O’er rocky paths now revealed;
Spring in joy returns
Green shoots rising clothe the naked hill
As new life rises with the spring
Crystal water burbles down the rill
Green shoots rising clothe the naked hill
“Joy!” I trumpet, new born as a golden daffodil
Trilling birds echo my song as they take wing
Green shoots rising clothe the naked hill
As new life rises with the spring.
Author's note: Just for fun I decided to try to combine two poetry forms in one poem; triolet and haiku.
