unfathomably dark chaos
three degrees above absolute zero
In love
He brooded
awaiting the time of light
of life.
Beside Abraham’s summer camp at Mamre
sweltering sunshine oppressive beneath the oaks
the hottest part of the day
In anger
He appeared
negotiating the time of punishment
of death.
Above the Israelite encampment
thunder-smoke moiling within white-hot cloud of fire
upon the Mountain of the Lord
In love
He lingered
prescribing the times of obedience
of life.
Tabernacled between the golden cherubim
merciful patience eroding to red-hot furnace fury
against mindless worship of wooden gods
In anger
He exploded
enacting the times of chastisement
of death.
Within the shadows of rocky hideaway
chorused by beasts and angels
skin shriveled, puckered vainly against dank-cold must
In love
He birthed
commencing the time of flesh
of life.
Beyond the Heavens in iridescent throne room
beneath midnight sun at the ninth hour
fully present with perfect Son thirsty, forsaken
righteously judging
pain-racked on blood-crusted tree
In anger
He condemned
In love
He drank
imbibing the eternity of bitter-cold wrath
of death
Ensuring the eternity of ardent adoration
of life.
Aflame on disciples’ tousled heads
soul-tonguing fire, burning bushes unconsumed
cold, thirst-quenching fountains and hot, restorative springs
In love
He breathes
igniting the hearts of His children
with life.
