Let us rejoice together… just as the Psalmist said in Psalm 126:2--“with my mouth full of laughter and joy”
For Christmas has come once more into our hearts. It embraces an old and true message: “WE HAVE A SAVIOR! HARK! HE WAS BORN AS THE CHRIST CHILD IN A FAR AWAY MANGER!”
He was born in a lowly stable!
“Why in a lowly stable Lord?”
Because Jesus was to be a lamb for God. In order that the human heart can grasp God’s complete message to mankind, Jesus, the Sacrificial Lamb was born in the stable… just as any other lamb.
“Lord why were the shepherds the very first to hear the Glad Tidings?”
Because only faithful and watchful shepherds would heartily rejoice at the birth of THE LAMB…JESUS…GOD’S OWN LAMB! Shepherds can also humbly tell the Good News with all their hearts…
Through the ages, we are still guided to keep the birth of Jesus with great reverence and goodwill.
For, Christmas keeps coming in our life every year!
Do you know that as it comes, Faith will push away all our sadness? And that true joy of the Lord will help us give honor to God for the great miracle He has used to bring us to Himself…Christmas Joy will also help us give God the glory for the victory won over sin at the cross.
This is what it means to commemorate the birth of Christ as a little baby. We can all celebrate by going out of our way to feel the need to share in some lively signs of celebration.
For example, as the Lord Jesus ate with His disciples on numerous occasions, does this fact not teach us to imitate Him somehow on the celebration of this wonderful occasion? Can we not sit together and eat before the Lord to rejoice before the Father as we celebrate the Son?
Oh we certainly can!
The book of Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV) teaches us “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
So what stops us from preparation of certain meal specialties? Or certain Christmas delicacies? Or even some sort of unforgettable types of Fruit Cakes---in their unique taste--- with their exceptional flavor? In simplicity we shall be inspired to find ways to enrich our palate memories…with hopes to repeat them every Noel.
Back in Africa…our best choice was a British traditional Christmas cake—we learnt thru the Missionaries serving the Lord among us.
When the only dried fruits available were dates…we rejoiced as we chopped and used them. While all kinds of nuts were a great Christmas treat all around the world…back there we simply had to forget completely about them.
When the continuous and unexpected power-cuts overpowered us…we turned the “cake-baking” into boiled puddings which we simmered over a charcoal fire. Then shared them, and ate them warm, with much praise to God our Provider.
We learnt from the Angels that the Nativity is a time for Adoration! A time for Peace! A time for sharing God’s blessings.
Again—in the Sudan, in Africa, all these blessings had only included a few pancakes sprinkled with sugar —That was what weave used, in sharing with the born again Christians there: The Native Sudanese who were then fully aware of Jesus the Redeemer and His right to be praised and lifted up! They knew exactly the meaning of Noel….Hallelujah! That it was a time for trusting and forgiving!
A time for doing worthwhile deeds with a long lasting memory of love. Baking goodies was an obvious testimony, and their hearts rejoiced as we included them in the process of preparation of the dough for baking during Christmas week.
Let us always remember: Every time we celebrate the Nativity, we draw closer to Jesus.
If our heart has lost its song? Every Christmas has for us a new gift of hope to cheer us up. I believe that it is at the very first Noel that God has fully blessed us with joy. A JOY that surpasses all understanding-- and this JOY is upon all the earth. It starts first in your heart and in mine.
Let us pray this JOY will remain forever…till we all see Jesus our Savior face to face.
My heartiest prayer for all is this: “Beloved brothers and sisters around the world,
MAY YOU ALL HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS filled with the presence of God.” Amen.
