His mane flowed in the wind as the mighty beast thundered across the plain. Each muscle group rippled in cadence with an effortless motion. Regal confidence was in every stride as his nostrils flared with a rhythm of majestic beauty. His head was held high as he came to rest at the top of a high knoll. He surveyed the land as he overlooked the boundaries of his domain, and without words all held their breath in honor of Virtue’s kingdom.
From an old wooden farmhouse the squeaking of a well used screen door echoed in the morning air to announce the arrival of a master. She was not the warrior one would expect to dominate the beast, yet the beast was well acquainted with her authority. She slowly entered into the tack room and emerged onto the pasture with nothing but a bit and bridle.
The stallion whinnied at her appearance and pawed the ground atop of his vantage point. She called to him by a shrill, short whistle, known to him as safety and friendship. Without hesitation, the black stallion galloped down the knoll strait for his master. He stopped a few feet short of her, and then walked up slowly until they were face to face.
She whispered gently in his ear before placing the bit in his mouth and the bridle over his noble head. No saddle was needed for the union of both was not uncommon. She mounted him and he obediently stood motionless. She stroked his neck with the reassurance he was longing for.
They started to walk, slowly at first, then canter, and then ran with unity and respect for one another.
The poetry in motion was to say the least, inspiring. At the end of the ride the dismount was not the end, but with bridle in hand, she lead the beast to fresh oats and water.
There was another onlooker who sat on the porch of the farmhouse. He was silent, smoking a pipe, and rocking in and old chair weathered and worn by time. He spoke to the girl as she approached.
“You never cease to amaze me, Faith.”
“How is that, father?”
“Your love for one another is a perfect picture of glory. It has taken years to perfect, but the two of you go together like a hand in a glove. Your patience has been perfected in the taming of the beast.”
“It has taken a long time, father.”
“Yes, but you never gave up, and now you know what it means to, “…let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing”. James 1:4 NKJV
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Pe 1:5-8 NKJV
