We probably have all played charades, and most of us can laugh ecstatically over the humor of the game, but when it comes to Christ can we really afford to lose?
People can be convinced of what sounds like the real thing, but many religions are nothing but a verbal façade. Well organized machines that bring thousands to believe in a false front will leave you feeling good about yourself, but leave your soul to gasp for revival.
The air it gives is tainted with the wisdom of men, and not the heavenly wisdom that can only come from God.
What you are left with is a desire to hear another message that will pump you up until the next meeting, or the next moral rebuke. Do you find yourself wanting? Do you find yourself constantly needing a spiritual heart massage? Do you wonder why others seem so complete, while you are always left lacking?
Jesus is not a liar. He is not hard to figure out. He does not have a communications problem. If you read your Bible, then that is good. If do what the Bible teaches, then that is great! If you want to be the greatest in God kingdom then learn to be the servant of all.
To be the “servant of all” may I suggest doing what the Bible teaches, and put Christ first, not in words only, but in actions.
Caution: Some actions are to stand, wait, pray, and listen. You may find that in your zeal to please God you are involved in study after study, in order to find out what to do next, rather than doing what the Bible study was teaching in the first place. Without faith it is impossible to please God… Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
When we read about great men and women of faith you find by faith Abraham “obeyed” and “waited.” Sarah judged God faithful. Enoch, Noah, and others trusted not in what they were able to do, but in what God was available to do. We must put into practice what we are promised in the word of God.
Ask yourself if within your church, are the people happy, or truly joyful? Happiness is only a temporary condition at the time, but joyfulness by Christ is everlasting through all circumstances.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 NKJV
We don’t need to feel good so that we can go on another day… we need not to go by our feelings, but to know the facts that will create unspeakable joy, and usher us into all of eternity.
Charades is a great game, but I for one do not want to play with my soul at stake, do you?
Church should be the most enjoyable of times. It should be filled with great music, great friends and family, and indeed a time to strengthen oneself in the things of God. We cannot afford to play games with something so precious as eternal life.
My prayer is that God would show us all the verbal façades… of church charades.
James 1:22
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
